State-run Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) chairman Mukesh Kumar Surana has said that the oil PSU has seen an increase in the fuel demand and expects it to reach pre-Covid levels by the end of this quarter, reports Economic Times.

The HPCL chairman said that the petrol demand was already at the pre-Covid levels and that the demand for diesel will rise to those levels by December.

“Petrol demand is already at pre-Covid levels; diesel demand is expected to reach those levels by the end of the current quarter. Diesel demand in this month, so far, is higher than the same period last year,” Surana was quoted as saying.

It should be noted that after the imposition of the nationwide lockdown due to Coronavirus pandemic, the demand for petrol and diesel saw a significant contraction as less number of vehicles were plying on the roads owing to Covid related restrictions.

However, with the phased easing of restrictions, the demand for fuel is rising across the country.

Surana further said that sales have been picking up on a monthly basis and if compared on year-on-year basis, things were coming back on track.
