Underworld gangster Ravi Pujari, who once terrorised Mumbai and other parts of India in the 1990s, has been brought back to India late last night will be produced before a court in Bangalore, reports NDTV.
When Pujari was arrested in Senegal, he was travelling with a fake passport from Burkino Faso, under the false identity of Anthony Fernandes.
Pujari was arrested and extradited from Senegal and flown to Bengaluru late at night by a team of senior IPS officers from Karnataka.
Notably, the underworld mafia is wanted for extortion and murder in different parts of the country and there are 90 cases in Karnataka itself under the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA). Over 70 cases of extortion are registered against him in Gujarat.
The Supreme Court of Senegal on Wednesday (19 February), rejected his request challenging his extradition to India.
Ravi Pujari was a one time associate of Chhota Rajan, who is currently serving a life sentence.
Additional Director-General of Police Amar Kumar Pandey said. "He is physically fit. Questioning will begin from tomorrow (Monday). First, we have to take him to the magistrate. He will be produced before the court tomorrow (Monday). He is supporting our investigation and answering questions," the officer said on Sunday.
