RIver Ganga in Haridwar (Pic via Twitter)
Water in the river Ganga has seen a 500 per cent decrease in total dissolved solid (TDS), industrial effluent and sewage emanating from hotels and lodges during the ongoing nationwide lockdown. This clean water is now also fit for Achaman during puja, reports Times Travel.
As per Environmental Scientist B D Joshi it has been a long time since the water has been so clean. The ongoing nationwide lockdown has seen a sharp fall in industrial and tourism activity.
Various other officials like the regional officer of State Pollution Control Board (PCB) have said that there is a visible difference in the quality of the water. Another PCB official has said that Haridwar’s water can be used for drinking after treatment and the water at Rishikesh can be drunk after disinfecting.
