Around 180 students who were scheduled to write the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) were airlifted from Srinagar in a special Indian Air Force aircraft on 8 February (Friday).

“Due to heavy snowfall, the valley was cut off from the rest of the world due to the closure of the national highway and cancellation of flights. Because of the above, state authorities in coordination with Indian Air Force arranged an aircraft to airlift the students appearing for GATE examination," said one of the officials, reports Times of India.

Furthermore, the officials said that 179 students left for Jammu by C-17 aircraft from the Srinagar airport and all arrangements were made for the students by authorities at the airport.
