Trinamool Congress (TMC), is planning construction of 10 sun temples in the Asansol area of West Bengal, Financial Express has reported.

As per the report, TMC’s bid to construct sun temples is being construed as an exercise to endear a large number of migrants from Jharkhand and Bihar in the Asansol-Durgapur region who worship Sun god during Chhath festival.

Jitendra Kumar Tiwari, the Mayor of Asansol Municipal Corporation and Senior TMC leader said, “In this area of Durgapur-Asansol, there is a huge Hindi speaking population. Every year, we witness large number of devotees during Chhath Puja. In order to cater to them, we have decided to build 10 sun temples in the area,”

The designs of the temples are expected to get ready by December and the total construction cost will be around Rs 2 crore. The temples are likely to be completed before the next year’s Chhath Puja.

Tiwari, who is also the chairman of Chhath Puja Coordination Committee, said that they have already started mobilising funds from the locals for construction of the temples.

Union Minister and local BJP MP Babul Supriyo has said that due to the “fear of BJP”, TMC has shifted its stance away from “minority appeasement”. He said TMC is doing it with an eye on next year’s Lok Sabha polls.
