Giving Back To The Society: IIM-Bengaluru’s Start-Up Brings Cheer To Knee Amputees’ Lives

Prarambh, a limb donation camp organised by two social impact clubs of IIM Bangalore (IIMB) - Prayaas and Vikasana, donated prosthetic kits to fourteen knee amputees in Bangalore on Monday (18 December).
The specially designed lightweight adjustable limbs were provided by Nonspec, a startup at NS Raghavan Centre for Entrepreneurial Learning (NSRCEL), the innovation and entrepreneurial centre of IIMB.
Prayaas is a social initiative of IIMB’s one year Executive Post Graduate Programme (EPGP) students, while the Vikasana is a social impact club run by the students of two-year Post Graduate Programme, reports Times of India.
Prarambh was organised by both these groups in association with Nonspec, the Association of People with Disability (APD), and Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement.
The beneficiaries of 14 prosthetic kits, that were delivered at the function, were men and women ranging from 15 to 70 years, mostly from Mysore and Bangalore.
According to the report, the limb kits provided by Nonspec are ISO tested, affordable and height as well as angle adjustable.
Many of those who were in the camps were victims of snake bites, accidents and diseases among other things. They were earlier using cheaper but heavy prosthetics due to the high cost of lightweight ones.
After the distribution of new prosthetic limbs, the amputees were hopeful of improvement in their mobility as well a better quality of life.
