Global Covid-19 Cases Near 1.5 Crore, Death Toll Rises To Over 6.16 Lakh; US Case Count Tops 39 Lakh

The total number of Covid-19 cases has surged to over 1.49 crore globally, while the deaths have surpassed 6.16 lakh mark, according to the Johns Hopkins University.

As of Wednesday (22 July) evening, the total number of cases stood at 14,968,982 while the fatalities increased to 616,985, the University's Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) revealed in its latest update.

As many as 8,486,019 people have recovered from the disease globally, the CSSE data showed.

With 3,902,135 cases and 142,068 deaths, the US continues with the world's highest number of COVID-19 infections and fatalities, according to the CSSE.

Brazil comes in the second place with 2,159,654 infections and 81,487 deaths.

In terms of cases, India ranks third (1,193,078), and was followed by Russia (787,846), South Africa (381,798), Peru (362,087), Mexico (356,255), Chile (334,683), the UK (297,389), Iran (278,827), Pakistan (267,428), Spain (266,194), Saudi Arabia (255,825), Italy (244,752), Turkey (221,500), France (214,607), Bangladesh (213,254), Colombia (211,038) and Germany (203,905).

Argetina (136,118), Canada (113,473), and Qatar (107,430) are some of the other countries with more than 1 lakh Covid-19 cases, the CSSE figures showed.

The countries that reported over 10,000 deaths are the UK (45,507), Mexico (40,400), Italy (35,073), France (30,168), India (28,732), Spain (28,424), Iran (14,634), Peru (13,579), and Russia (12,722).
