Global Covid-19 Cases Rise To 1.16 Crore, Death Toll Increases To Over 5.38 Lakh

The total number of Covid-19 cases has surged to nearly 1.16 crore globally, while the deaths have surpassed 5.38 lakh mark, according to the Johns Hopkins University.
As of Tuesday (7 July) evening, the total number of cases stood at 11,645,109 while the fatalities increased to 538,780, the University's Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) revealed in its latest update.
As many as 6,324,462 people have recovered from the disease globally, the CSSE data showed.
With 2,938,624 cases and 130,306 deaths, the US continues with the world's highest number of COVID-19 infections and fatalities, according to the CSSE.
Brazil comes in the second place with 1,623,284 infections and 65,487 deaths.
In terms of cases, India ranks third (719,664), and was followed by India (693,215), Peru (305,703), Chile (298,557), the UK (287,291), Mexico (261,750), Spain (251,789), Italy (245,688), Iran (241,819), Pakistan (234,509), Saudi Arabia (213,716), Turkey (206,844), South Africa (205,721), France (205,597), Germany (198,079), Bangladesh (168,645), Colombia (117,412), Canada (107,815) and Qatar (100,345), the CSSE figures showed.
The other countries with over 10,000 deaths are the UK (44,321), Italy (34,869), Mexico (31,119), France (29,923), Spain (28,388), India (20,159), Iran (11,931), Peru (10,772) and Russia (10,478).
