The Golden Temple.
The NDA government at the Centre has decided to waive off GST on langar items at the Golden Temple, Hindustan Times has reported.
The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has welcomed the Union government’s decision and thanked the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) for its efforts towards the decision.
The move comes after the President sanctioned the Special Financial Assistance for Sewa Bhoj Yojana yesterday (31 May). As part of the scheme, the Central GST and Centre’s share of Integrated GST on items used by charitable institutions to distribute free food will be reimbursed by the government in the form of financial assistance to the bodies.
As part of the scheme, Rs 300 crore will be reimbursed to the Golden Temple, as reported by ABP News, with the total outlay for the scheme being pegged at Rs 350 crore.
The scheme will apply to all charitable institutions that serve langar to devotees and needy. The state government had already waived off its share of the GST on the langar earlier.
