Google has now decided to introduce Unified Payments Interface (UPI) as a new payment option for Indian users on its Play Store platform, reports The Economic Times.
This will allow users to make purchases on the Play Store using whichever UPI app they prefer, among them popular options like BHIM, Google Pay, Paytm, PhonePe. To be able to use the new payment method, users will need to submit their UPI ID in the Google Play Store Billing service.
According to the head of Google Play Retail & Payments Activation - India, Vietnam & New Zealand, Saurabh Agarwal, the addition of UPI to their platform will allow access to a bigger audience for app developers.
"One way to make this happen is to make it even easier for people to pay for apps and in-app content, which is why we are pleased to add Unified Payment Interface (UPI) as a new payment method to the existing roster of credit or debit card, net banking, direct carrier billing, and gift cards options," he stated.
