Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has said that the central government will be developing four heli-hubs in India at Mumbai, Delhi, Guwahati and Bengaluru respectively.
To ensure timely evacuation for accident victims, heliports will also be developed along three expressways - Mumbai-Delhi, Ambala-Kotpuli and Ambala-Bhatinda-Jamnagar, the minister said.
“We have identified 10 cities and 82 routes to develop helicopter corridors across the country, starting with 6 between Juhu-Pune-Juhu; Mahalakshmi Race Course-Pune; Gandhinagar-Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar,” Scindia was quoted in a report by the Times of India (TOI).
He added, “To give a boost to Helicopter Emergency Medical Services in India, heliports will be developed alongside 3 expressways (Delhi-Bombay, Ambala-Kotpuli and Ambala-Bhatinda-Jamnagar). These would ensure timely evacuation and medical treatment for accident victims.”
Scindia further said that a dedicated helicopter acceleration cell will be established at the Union Civil Aviation Ministry to provide regulatory and policy-related directions to instill ease of doing business in the helicopter industry.
As part of the new policy, the helicopter operators will be exempted from paying parking deposit and landing charge. Moreover, the air traffic control and the Airports Authority of India (AAI) officials will be given the necessary training.
Scindia said that the ministry will collaborate with the state governments to to improve ease of doing business for the helicopter industry.
