As Indo-Chinese relationship has sunk to a multi-decadal nadir in the view of the ongoing Chinese belligerence and bloody adventurism along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Eastern Ladakh, the Centre has sought a product-wise list of cheap imports to identify which products can be supplanted with local offerings, reports Times of India.

The Government has asked the list to offer a comparison of the Chinese imported products with the prices of domestic offerings and the tax disadvantages attached to the domestic products if any.

The development comes after the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) had held a high-level meeting to discuss ways to promote Aatmanirbhar Bharat and paring down the import dependence from China.

PMO has also sought comments and suggestions from the industry on a certain set of goods and raw materials which are imported from China. These include offerings like wristwatches, wall clocks, ampoules, glass rods and tubes, hair cream, hair shampoos, face powder, eye and lip make up preparations, printing ink, paints and varnishes and certain tobacco products.

It should be noted that China serves about 14 per cent of India's import needs and is a major supplier to sectors like cell phones, telecom, power, plastic toys and critical Pharma ingredients.
