In a welcome relief for Greater Noida West residents, the stalled metro project between Noida Sector 71 and Greater Noida West has been given the green light by authorities, Hindustan Times has reported.

Greater Noida and Noida authorities will collaborate for the project. They had previously put it on the back-burner in 2017 citing scarcity of funds and low ridership estimates from Greater Noida West.

Narendra Bhooshan, the chief executive officer of the Greater Noida Authority stated a decision had been made to revive the metro link project due to the increase in the population of residents in Greater Noida West. A final go-ahead will be given in the board meeting scheduled on 3 December.

The project will be constructed with the help of Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC), which has built the Rs 5,503 crore Noida-Greater Noida metro link that is expected to commence operations by the end of this year; the existing project will connect Noida with Greater Noida via Pari Chowk.

On the other hand, the Noida and Greater Noida West line will provide connectivity through Kisan Chowk. Details of the project will be measured in a Detailed Project Report (DPR) after the Board gives its go-ahead to the proposal.

The total distance which will be covered by the new line between Noida Sector 71 and Greater Noida West Sector 1 will be seven km. Greater Noida West has a total planned housing capacity of 3.5 lakh units. Residents who’ve already moved into 50,000 units are thus facing inconvenience due to poor public transport.
