Bharuch: Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has arrested the 2007 Ajmer Dargah Blast accused Suresh Nair who was in hiding for the past 11 years. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) had declared a reward of Rs 2 lakh for his arrest, as reported by Indian Express.
Nair had allegedly supplied bombs which were planted in the Sufi shrine in Rajasthan on 11 October 2017, which killed three persons and injured 17 people, according to the information with ATS. He was also present in the shrine when the bomb was planted as per reports.
Nair had changed his name to Uday Guruji after learning that his name had popped up in an investigation by the ATS and had been living in disguise as a religious sant. He was listed among the most wanted men on the NIA website.
He was arrested at Shukaltirth fair. “The operation was based on human intelligence. We came to know that Suresh would be coming to Shukaltirth in Bharuch. Accordingly, we sent a team to the place and kept a watch. He arrived two days ago, and his whole appearance had changed. He had a full beard and long hair like a sadhu,” said an ATS officer.
After arresting him from Baruch, he was shifted to Ahmedabad for further investigation and later is to be handed over to the NIA. Nair was one among the three including former RSS pracharaks Devendra Gupta and Bhavesh Patel who transported the explosives to Ajmer. Two of Nair’s accomplices are the only people convicted in a terror case in India involving Hindutva groups.
