Gujarat Tops Among 7 States That Have Faster COVID-19 Transmission Rate Than National Average: Data By IIT Delhi

The spread rate of the novel coronavirus in seven Indian states has been found to be faster than the national average as per a recent modelling by Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT D) researchers, News18 reported.
Among the seven states, Gujarat has found to be fastest rate of COVID-19 spread, while cases in West Bengal are growing at the second highest speed. Other states are Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, and Jharkhand.
The data was displayed on 23 April by a dashboard by IIT D named PRACRITI that projects the transmission rate in as many as 19 states and 100 districts across the nation which have at least 60 per cent of total coronavirus cases in India.
According to the data, Gujarat has the highest infection rate in the country with a 3.3 R0 (R naught), the average number of people that a sick individual goes on to infect in a group that does not have immunity. This means one infected person in Gujarat is further infecting 3.3 more persons on an average.
When it comes to 100 districts that were being monitored by the researchers, only 28 districts have been measured to have a transmission rate faster than the national average. These states are in nine states -- Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana, and Punjab.
Gujarat, as of Sunday (26 April) afternoon, was the second worst-hit state in the county with 3,071 cases including 133 casualties.
