The older brother of Gurugram school boy who died by suicide following a MeToo allegation of molestation by a girl, has in a viral Instagram post implored people to stop branding his younger brother a rapist.

In the post, Rishi Singh asserts that his brother was not a rapist and claimed that the allegations against him were false.

Rishi alleges that after the girl posted her allegations on social media, his brother began receiving threatening calls and messages. He adds that while his brother tried to defend himself which included claiming his innocence, he ultimately could not handle the constant threats.

“He was under tremendous pressure and had a panic attack and impulsively decided to commit suicide”, writes Rishi.

Rishi also claimed that after his brother’s death the girl posted another story which said, “if he couldn’t handle this pressure then it’s not her job”.

“Social media made my brother a rapist overnight because that girl wrote that he did something which he did not. He was not proven guilty and he was not a rapist and I urge everyone to stop calling him that”, Rishi’s post goes on to say.

“Defamation on social media can be harmful to the mental health of people and we as a family stand proof to how devastating a mere story on Instagram can be. People should realise the repercussions of their actions. It is very well said that with great power comes great responsibility and people on social media should realise this”, the post adds.

Rishi ultimately demanded justice for his brother while asserting that he did not deserve to die.
