Hampi Vandalism: Ex-Royals Join Stir Against Disrespect For Heritage, Seek Greater Security At UNESCO Site

To protest against the recent vandalism by miscreants in Hampi, the descendants of the royal family of Mysuru Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar and Krishnadeva Raya, a descendant of Anegundi’s Vijayanagara rulers, reportedly took part in the demonstration staged by natives in Kamalapur on 4 February, reports The Hindu.
Yaduveer was reportedly at Hampi to visit some of the temples since 3 February. Krishnadeva Raya, is also protesting along with members of Vijayanagar Smaraka Samskruti Samrakahana Sene.
They also stressed on the need for the authorities to provide ample safety to the ancient monuments at Hampi. They submitted a memorandum to Kalimuthu, Deputy Superintending Archaeologist, Archaeological Survey of India, Hampi Mini Circle, seeking greater respect for heritage.
A recent video in which some miscreants were pushing a granite pillar in the ‘prakara’ of the ancient Vishnu temple, behind Elephant stable, had gone viral.
The news sparked protests by locals against the government and authorities of ASI for their failure to protect ancient monuments at Hampi.
