Ahead of the Kumbh Mela celebrations in the Uttarakhand's holy city of Haridwar, a "Paint My City" campaign has been launched under which the walls in the Mela area and other places of tourist interest in the city will be painted with pictures from the Hindu sacred texts and depiction of the culture of Garhwal and Kumaon regions, reports Economic Times.
The "Paint My City" campaign is being run by the Haridwar-Roorkee Development Authority. The campaign was launched on Friday (1 January) by state Cabinet Minister Madan Kaushik, who also said that the Kumbh Mela will as always be held on a grand scale.
Kaushik, who is the State's Minister for Urban Development had a few days ago announced that the state will be holding the Kumbh Mela celebrations as a 48-days-long event and that a notification regarding the same would be issued in February. This gains significance as the usual Kumbh Mela celebrations go on for three-and-a-half months.
Kaushik had also said that in the view of COVID-19 pandemic, the state government has decided to hold the main baths in the March-April period. However, devotees will be able to take the royal baths during these 48 days.
