Personnel of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), who man national airports have now been granted permission by BCAS to check passengers’ bags without the need to separately take out laptops and liquid products, as reported by Business Standard (BS). Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) is an attached office of the Union Civil Aviation Ministry.
“On an experimental basis, BCAS has allowed handbag scanners where laptops, liquids item not to be taken out at Delhi and Mumbai airport for security check,” BCAS DG Rajesh Chandra told news agency, ANI.
It should also be noted that this decision is still subject to modification and proof of concept will have to be cleared by all the concerned authorities for implementation. Along with improving user experience, this move will also help conserve time and efforts of security forces.
To facilitate faster and smoother air travel, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) recently issued tenders to deploy the Digi Yatra mechanism at the four state-run airports of Varanasi, Pune, Kolkata and Vijayawada. Digi Yatra will help passengers board flights using facial recognition technology, thus promoting seamless security checkups.
