Congress MLA Divya Maderna from Osian in Jodhpur asked the Khetasar sarpanch, Chandu Devi, to sit on the floor with the audience when she went to sit beside her on the dais. A video of the aforementioned incident is viral on social media, and the sarpanch has demanded an apology.
“She sat on the floor initially, but then people said she should sit next to the MLA since she is a sarpanch. So, she then went to sit with the MLA. But the MLA gestured her to go, so she left her chair and sat among the people for the rest of the sabha,” said the husband of the sarpanch.
In a bizarre defence statement, Maderna said that her actions were “justified” as the sarpanch had won on a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ticket and it was a Congress meeting, reported DNA.
Maderna is holding her debut office as an MLA. She defeated BJP’s Bhera Ram Chaudhary in December 2018 Assembly polls. Her father, Mahipal Maderna, who was once considered a prospective chief ministerial candidate has been in jail since 2012 after he was accused in the murder of auxiliary nurse Bhanwari Devi.
