Standing much ahead of State Bank of India (SBI)'s Rs 2.83 lakh crore market capitalisation, India's highest valued lender with a market capitalisation of a whopping Rs 6.64 lakh crore, HDFC Bank completed 25 years of operation on Tuesday (18 February), reports Livemint.
On achievement of the grand feat, the bank committed to plant 25 lakh trees and to take up digitisation of 2,500 classrooms across India. The man who has held the bank throughout this course, managing director and chief executive Aditya Puri, launched the initiatives by himself planting a guava tree at a municipal school in central Mumbai, where he also launched the first digital classroom under the initiative.
Launching the initiatives, Puri said, "There are no alternatives to a clean environment and smart classrooms. Both are an absolute necessity for our nation to become the global force we all want it to be."
It should be noted that the ace banker is set to retire in October this year, and has thus initiated a succession planning exercise to find the right leadership to lead the bank after his retirement from the helm of affairs.
