The National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) has called the Singhu border incident a “heinous Talibani crime”.

On Friday morning, the body of a man was found hung from a metal frame, his foot and wrist chopped off. The severed parts were hung from the frame too.

The victim was later identified as 35-year-old Lakhbir Singh, a Sikh belonging to a scheduled caste and hailing from Taran Taran district in Punjab.

NCSC chairman Vijay Sampla posted several tweets on the case on Friday.

He demanded strict punishment for those who carried out “the barbarism in the guise of farmers”. He also tagged the official Twitter account of police chief of Haryana, and asked for a preliminary report to be submitted to the NCSC office.

A group of Nihang Sikhs were captured on mobile-shot videos saying that the man had desecrated a copy of the Sikh religious text, promoting speculations that they were behind the killing.

Later in the day, the Haryana police arrested a Nihang Sikh for the crime. The police said further investigation is on.
