Here’s How Much Black Money In New Notes Was Seized Last Week

Plenty of reports emerged last week (4-11 December) on the seizing of black money in the form of the new Rs 2,000 currency notes. Here’s a list of the top 15 of such cases.

4 December

1. Odisha Police recovered Rs 1.43 lakh along with arms in Sambalpur.

2. Rs 71 lakh was seized by Karnataka Police in a raid.

3. A Panchayat member in Kodagu district, Karnataka, was caught with Rs 34 lakh in new notes.

5 December

4. A Bharatiya Janata Party leader was arrested with Rs 33 lakh in new notes by West Bengal Police.

5. Rs 11 lakh was seized by Alwar Police in Rajasthan.

6 December

6. The Indian Army caught a couple with Rs 9.32 lakh in Moreh, Manipur.

7. Rs 58 lakh was recovered from Hyderabad.

8. Rs 8 lakh was found in new notes by Gwalior Police.

9. One person was caught with Rs 37 lakh in Pavagada, Karnataka.

7 December

10. The Central Bureau of Investigation found Rs 11 lakh along with laptops and mobile phones, and seized documents in Hyderabad.

11. Four men were arrested in Kolar with Rs 18 lakh in new notes.

12. Rs 11 lakh was seized in Belagavi, Karnataka.

13. Goa Police raided several places and found over Rs 1.75 crore in new notes.

8 December

14. The Income Tax department found Rs 90 crore in new notes, plus 100kg in gold in Chennai.

9 December

15. Rs 100 crore was found in a raid by the Income Tax department in Chennai.

There are over 50 such cases of new notes being seized in tax raids, with a recent report stating that Rs 138 crore was seized from a cooperative bank in Rajasthan.

The total amount recovered in these raids is well over Rs 140 crore in the last week alone, and has exceeded Rs 160 crore if the last week of November is to be included as well.

The top three states where money was seized are Karnataka, Gujarat and Telangana.
