With the highest single-day spike of 52,123 new cases in the last 24 hours, the Covid-19 tally in India has surged to 1,583,792, the Union Health Ministry data revealed on Thursday (30 July).

According to the Health Ministry, of the total, 5,28,242 are active cases while at least 1,020,582 people have been cured of the disease.

The number of Covid-19 deaths in the country has increased from previous day's 34,193 to 34,968, an increase of 775 in the last 24 hours.

Maharashtra remained the worst-hit state and reported 9,211 new infections, taking its tally to 4,00,651 including 14,463 fatalities, followed by Tamil Nadu (2,34,114), Delhi (1,33,310) and Karnataka (1,12,504).

States with most casualties after Maharashtra are Delhi (3,907), Tamil Nadu (3,741), Gujarat (2,393), Karnataka (2,147), Uttar Pradesh (1,530), West Bengal (1,490), Andhra Pradesh (1,213) and Madhya Pradesh (844).

The national capital recorded a single-day spike of 1,035 cases taking the tally beyond 1.33 lakh cases of which 10,770 were active cases as 3,907 people died and 1,18,633 were cured and discharged.
