Indian IT giant Infosys has revealed that between April 2017 and March 2019, it recruited around 9,100 employees in the United States (US), nearly reaching its goal of hiring 10,000 employees in the country, reports The Times of India.
"Since April of 2017, we have hired about 9,100 people as of March 2019. This has actually helped us in strengthening our business model and becoming less dependent on visa for for talent or ability," stated. Infosys COO UB Pravin Rao
The company is following the same strategy as many other IT firms operating in Western countries by focusing on local-based recruitment due to the stricter stance taken by governments in issuing work visas.
Moreover, the company’s presence in the US is critical as North America accounts for 61.2 per cent of its revenues. Europe comes next with 24 per cent. The non-executive chairman of the company, Nandan Nilekani said that the company’s digital centres in the US, Europe and Asia-Pacific had also been expanded, while it was concentrating on building new digital delivery infrastructure in India.
