Questions are being raised over the security situation at Delhi’s signature bridge, which was inaugurated by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal after it was found that vandals have damaged the newly built structure in the national capital, Times of India has reported.

According to the report, vandals have started stealing nuts and bolts of bridge cables. Each cable rests on 12 nut and bolts. It was found on Monday (3 November) morning that some of the nut and bolts from the cables connecting the pylon with the surface were missing.

Engineers of Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation (DTTDC), expressing shock over the missing of nuts and bolts, said that “stronger welding” will be carried out for prevention of such acts in future.

“These parts were not missing earlier, this is an extremely shocking act. If a sufficient number of bolts are removed, this seemingly simple act of vandalism can become a safety hazard. We will find a solution with stronger welding or by deploying guards,” an official was quoted in the report.

Earlier, it was reported that the bridge has become a sensation among visitors who were littering the bridge and performing dangerous selfie stunts on the bridge.
