Honouring India’s Four Legged Heroes: Soon National War Memorial For Martyred Service Animals

India’s service animals who heroically gave up their life while serving the nation will now be honoured with a war memorial - all set to come up in Meerut, Hindustan Times has reported.
The memorial will mainly honour canines but will also feature mules and horses. It will recognise the heroics of on the battlefield, devotion to duty and outstanding contribution to military service.
The memorial will be housed at the elite Remount and Veterinary Corps (RVC) Centre and College in Meerut. The RVC is used by Indian Army for breeding, rearing and training dogs, mules and horses.
The Defence Ministry is soon expected to construct a war memorial for commemorating RVC animals and humans. The memorial is expected to be modelled along the lines of the national war memorial in New Delhi.
It will include the names of 300 dogs, 350 handlers and a few horses and mules. All their names would be inscribed on the granite walls.
Service dog Mansi who was martyred during a 2016 counter-insurgency operation in North Kashmir would be prominently mentioned in the memorial’s walls.
