Uttar Pradesh (UP) Chief Minister (CM) Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday (14 September) decided that the upcoming "Mughal Museum" in the Agra city will be renamed after Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, reports Indian Express.
Taking the decision while reviewing development works of Agra division, CM Adityanath said that the museum named after the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj will invoke nationalism and self-esteem. CM Adityanath made the decision while questioning, "How can our Heroes be Mughals?"
During the review meeting, CM Adityanath is said to have made it clear that his government has always nurtured the nationalist ideology and anything which smacks of subservient mentality will be done away with.
The foundation stone of the museum was laid by former state CM Akhilesh Yadav in 2016. It is proposed to come up on about six acres of land near the eastern gate of the Taj Mahal. The project was meant to apprise the the tourists about the Mughal era's weapons, culture and dresses among other such articles.
With CM Yogi asserting that Mughals cannot be our heroes, the nature of the project is likely to change too.
