Hyderabad Metro (L&T HMRL)
Breaking all its previous ridership records since beginning operations two years ago, Hyderabad Metro on 14 August (Wednesday), the even of Independence Day, saw more some 3.23 lakh footfalls with 3.06 lakh passengers using the network in the day, reports The New Indian Express.
The most popular station used by passengers was Hitec City, used by around 24,000 commuters.
Although the residents of Hyderabad acknowledge the huge benefits of having a well functioning metro system, many now seek the expansion of the network and increase in the frequency of trains in order to meet rapidly increasing demand.
“Sure the metro has made life easier, but it is time they increase the frequency and the number of trains or coaches to tackle the crowd,” said IT employee Anjali Chauhan.
For his part, the managing director (MD) of Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) N V S Reddy has given his assurance that soon frequency of trains running in all directions from Hitech City will be increased.
