Hyderabad Metro To Install Solar Plants To Generate 8 MWp Power; Will Meet 15 Per Cent Of Its Energy Needs

The Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited plans to generate around 8-megawatt peak (MWp) power via solar energy by installing solar panels on the rooftops of its stations and depots, reports Rail Analysis.
The entity is expecting to meet 15 per cent of its electricity consumption through solar units by the year-end.
As of now, the project is generating 3 MWp of power and an additional 1 MWp power is ready to be commissioned.
Chief Electrical Inspector to Government of India (CEIG) D V S Raju has inspected the 1 MWp Solar Installation at the Uppal Depot. Upon sanction from the Chief Electrical Inspector to Government of India (CEIG), the total solar power output from the Uppal Depot will reach 4 MW.
With an expected generation of 18,000 units per day, the depot shall produce 8 per cent of the total energy demand of Hyderabad Metro.
The solar plant has been developed by Ampsolar Generation Private Limited with whom Larsen & Tubro (L&T) and Hyderabad Metro Rail have a power purchasing agreement. L&T has a 90 per cent stake in the Hyderabad Metro.
