US President Donald Trump and China President Xi Jingping.
With soaring tensions between the United States (US) and China, President Donald Trump has ruled out taking forward the negotiations with China on the second phase of its trade deal, reports Asian News International (ANI).
When asked about the second phase of the deal in an interview to US-based news broadcaster CBS, President Trump clearly said, "I'm not interested right now in talking to China."
Disgruntled with the dragon nation, President Trump further added, "We made a great trade deal. But, as soon as the deal was done, the ink wasn't even dry and they hit us with the plague."
It should be noted that the two of the world's largest economies had signed the first phase of their trade deal in January, just before the COVID-19 pandemic had unleashed havoc across the world. The two nations had then also said that the expanded second phase could also be followed by a further third round.
Meanwhile, in 2019 alone, the trade deficit in the US-China bilateral trade stood at a massive $308 billion in favour of China. It was however lower than the all-time high of $380 billion deficit which had been recorded in 2018.
