Entrepreneur and Zoho Corporation’s chief executive officer (CEO) Sridhar Vembu was bullied on Twitter after he said that he would be present at an event organised by Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), reports The Economic Times.

Immediately, there was a backlash and hashtag #boycottzoho started to trend and many users of Zoho said they will stop using the platform as a sign of protest.

However, Vembu tweeted on Monday (6 January) afternoon, “I don't decide my views based on Twitter attacks. If you dislike which events I attend, please do what your conscience dictates and I will do what mine dictates. We earn our daily bread due to our work and we will continue to do quality work. I won't be responding to attacks.”

In support of Vembu, consulting editor of ET Now, Chandra R Srikanth tweeted that, “You can have views that differ from Sridhar Vembu but to bully him & asking ppl (people) to boycott Zoho is nothing short of harassment .”

The event organised by RSS will be held on 2 February at a school in south Chennai on the theme “Resurgent Bharath” and will be attended by software professionals.

Prakash B, State public Relations for RSS, said Rama S Ramachandran, MD and Head of Operations for Accenture Solutions will also be present.

“RSS has a long history of inviting senior executives of corporations to speak at their events and “We are planning to reach out to more such executives,” said Prakash.

In the past industry titans like Shiv Nadar, Ratan Tata, and Azim Premji have attended RSS events and met with senior functionaries of the organisation.
