IAF rescue underway (Pema Khandu/Twitter)
The Indian Air Force (IAF) today (31 August) successfully conducted a rescue operation in the East Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh, reports All India Radio. 30 people were rescued from an island in the Siang river.
While there has been a marginal rise in the water levels, East Siang Deputy Commissioner Tamio Tatak said that it was not a reason to panic and was due to silt accumulation on the riverbed.
The water level was later reported to have come down below the danger mark. It is not yet known how many people were affected.
The district administration had earlier issued a warning notice to people living in low lying areas due to the increasing water levels.
