IIT Bombay Becomes First Institution Outside North America To Tie Up With IBM For Artificial Intelligence Research

International Business Machines (IBM) and Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT-B) have entered into an industry-academia partnership to advance Artificial Intelligence (AI) research, Financial Express has reported. Through AI Horizons Network IIT-B will team up its faculty and students with IBM researchers.

“Over its 20-year history, IBM Research-India has been at the forefront of research advances in technologies like AI and Blockchain. We have always had strong collaborations with leading academic institutions in India,” Senior vice-president, Hybrid Cloud, and Director, IBM Research Arvind Krishna told Financial Express.

With this collaboration, IIT-B becomes the first institution outside North America to team up with IBM for AI research. Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Renesselaer Polytechnic Institute, the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, the University of Michigan, Universite de Montreal, the University of Maryland at Baltimore County, the UC San Diego and the University of Massachusetts at Amherst are other institutes which have collaborated with IBM for AI research.

At IIT Bombay, research teams will investigate new techniques for representing information through documents, graphs, charts and multimedia content. This will help in creating new applications in the area of financial services, retail and healthcare.
