Illustration of Lord Ram slaying the Chinese dagon
An illustration of Rama battling the Chinese dragon, which surfaced on social media in the wake of the violent face off between India and China in Ladakh's Galwan Valley on 16 June, is gaining viewers in Hong Kong and Taiwan.
Taiwan Times, called the illustration "photo of the day" on its website. It ran the illustration with a line: "India's Rama poised to slay China's dragon over Ladakh border dispute"
A report in the Taiwan News website says:
As nationalism on both sides of the border reached a fever pitch that day, an illustration showing Rama, the seventh avatar of the Hindu god Vishnu, drawing a bow and preparing to shoot a huge arrow into a Chinese dragon beside the words "We Conquer. We kill." was posted on the Hong Kong social media site LIHKG.
The report mentions that the poster was shared by Hong Kong Twitter user HoSaiLei. He wrote: "An Indian friend has already finished this exquisite Sino-Indian war poster." The poster and the depiction was mentioned by Twitter users.
In the illustration, Rama is depicted in a combative form -- airborne and ready to shoot an arrow at the Chinese dragon. The dragon is shown as somewhat curious audience, with little fire in it and pushed to a corner.
The Taiwan Times mentions that in response to the illustration, "some Hongkongers jokingly posted screenshots of the character Dhalsim from the video game 'Street Fighter' defeating the Chinese character Chun-Li."
The courageous form of Rama -- equipped with a sword and a glistening edge to the sword and the tip of the arrow -- appears as fierce and aggressive in the depiction. Attention to details, such as the accessories worn by the depiction of Rama, including unique footwear and armour for defence, seem to have clicked with the viewer.
Indian netizens thanked HoSaiLei for sharing the illustration and expressed their support to the people of Taiwan and Hong Kong. The illustration carries four words in white bold: "We Conquer. We Kill."
The illustration has brought a slight dash of colour to the solemn time when India is mourning the loss of 20 brave soldiers in Galwan Valley.
