UGC (PTI)
The University Grants Commission (UGC) is all set to determine ways to improve the quality of PhD thesis in India by commissioning a survey as a fact-finding measure to determine why India is lagging behind in research and journal quality, Indian Express has reported.
The UGC had earlier sought proposals from interested parties for conducting the said study and has already received 150 applications from IITs, universities, voluntary organisations and individuals. within a month.
The applications would be studied by an experts committee which will then commission the best study for a duration of six months. This selection process is expected to go on for around two to three weeks.
As per Vice-Chairman of UGC, Dr Bhushan Patwardhan, this study will help the commission determine the real quality of theses’ in India and ways to improve them. He also expressed delight that so many individuals and organisations are interested in studying the ground realities of PhD education in India.
