If buying a two wheeler was on your agenda, today might be one of the best days. Not because of any auspicious significance but, because two-wheeler majors like Hero MotoCorp, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI), Bajaj Auto and Suzuki Motorcycle are offering discounts of up to Rs 22,000 on Bharat Stage-III (BS-III) models to liquidate stocks. This move comes in after the Supreme Court of India banned the sale and registration of BS-III model vehicles from 1 April.

“These are unheard of discounts ever in the two-wheeler industry,” Federation of Automobile Dealers (FADA) past president and Director-International Affairs Nikunj Sanghi, has told Hindustan Times.

HMSI is offering cash back offer of Rs 22,000 on its BS-III scooters and motorcycles while market leader Hero MotoCorp offered discounts of up to Rs 12,500. Bajaj Auto also offered discounts and free insurance on its different models.

The dealership community was hoping for some relief in the form of more time to sell their stocks, but the court quashed all such hopes. The dealers have shifted their focus to liquidating the stocks. The automobile industry has a stock 8.24 lakh units of unsold BS-III vehicles.
