About 100 high technology ventilators are set to arrive in India from the United States (US) on Monday (15 June) in the realisation of President Donald Trump's promise of donating ventilators to India to add to the nation's fight against COVID-19, reports Livemint.
On May 16, US President Trump had tweeted: "I am proud to announce that the United States will donate ventilators to our friends in India. We stand with India and @narendramodi during this pandemic. We're also cooperating on vaccine development. Together we will beat the invisible enemy!"
Expressing gratitude for the warm gesture, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had thanked President Trump by tweeting back, "In such times, it's always important for nations to work together and do as much as possible to make our world healthier and free from Covid-19."
In the first such lot, a hundred such ventilators manufactured by US-based firm called Zoll will be brought to India from Chicago in an Air India flight. It should be noted though that the donation has been made to the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) and not to the Indian Government.
Upon reception, a small inaugural function will be held by IRCS following which the ventilators will be distributed to hospitals for patient care.
