In UP, Government Employees Aged 50 And Above To Face ‘Compulsory Retirement’ If Found Inefficient

The Uttar Pradesh (UP) government is considering ‘compulsory retirement’ for its employees who are aged 50 or above and are found inefficient.
"You all (departmental heads) should complete screening of all the employees above 50 years of age for compulsory retirement by July 31. For considering 50 years of age, the cut off date will be March 31, 2018," a government order issued by the additional chief secretary Mukul Singhal read.
According to a report in the Times of India, all government employees aged 50 or above will be considered for screening.
At least 4 lakh employees are likely to qualify for the screening.
To make sure that the order is implemented, the government has asked all its departments to complete screening of employees by 31 July.
The move, initiated by Yogi government, has not gone down well with around 16 lakh employees. The president of UP Secretariat Employees' Association Yadavendra Mishra has said the move is aimed at harassing employees.
"It will not be tolerated," Mishra was quoted as saying.
