India And South Korea Double Down On Further Expanding The Growing Defence And Military Engagement

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and his visiting South Korean counterpart Suh Wook on Friday (26 March) engaged with each other and explored new avenues for furthering the expanding defence and military relations between the two Asian nations, reports Economic Times.

The two leaders reaffirmed the support to multilateral initiatives to promote lasting peace and stability in the region and beyond, while discussing a wide gamut of issues, which included geopolitical developments in the region.

The two leaders held wide-ranging talks on the ways to boost bilateral strategic partnership. Also, China's military assertiveness in the region is said to have been discussed by the two leaders.

In addition to these, the two sides are also said to have discussed joint development of military hardware and sharing of technology to expand the extant cooperation.

As per a statement issued by the Ministry of Defence, the two sides explored new domains of bilateral defence cooperation and avenues to strengthen the long-standing bilateral defence partnership.

The statement highlighted that both the leaders acknowledged that the defence cooperation between the two nations has broadened significantly in scale and scope, across the tri-services, and also in the domain of defence technology and industry. It emphasised that both nations have also found common ground on several multilateral fora and engagements.
