AD-1 Interceptor (DRDO)
India has successfully conducted the maiden flight test of Phase-II Ballistic Missile Defence (BMD) interceptor AD-1.
The test was conducted from Dr Abdul Kalam Island, formerly known as Wheeler Island, located off the coast of Odisha.
The flight test was carried out with the participation of all BMD weapon system elements based at different locations.
The weapon is capable of intercepting ballastic missiles at long ranges.
"AD-1 is a long-range interceptor missile designed for both low exo-atmospheric and endo-atmospheric interception of long-range ballistic missiles and aircraft, " reports quoted a DRDO official as saying.
AD-1 has a two-stage solid motor. The interceptor is equipped with an indigenously developed advanced control system, navigation and guidance algorithm to precisely guide the vehicle to the target.
