India Gets Into ‘Seemasana’, Begins Smart-Fencing Of Borders Along Pakistan And Bangladesh On War-Footing

As part of two pilot projects, the Union government has now installed the Comprehensive Integrated Border Management System (CIBMS) along 71 km of India’s international border, with 10 km along the Indo-Pakistan Border and the rest 61 km along the Indo-Bangladesh Border.
The CIBMS project is expected to significantly improve the capability of Border Security Force (BSF) in detecting and controlling cross-border crimes like illegal infiltration, smuggling of contraband goods, human trafficking and cross border terrorism among others.
CIBMS involves deployment of a range of state-of-the-art surveillance technologies like thermal imagers, infra-red and laser-based intruder alarms, aerostats for aerial surveillance, unattended ground sensors that can help detect intrusion and alert the forces in real-time.
The government will now take up take up Stage-II and Stage-III covering about 1,955 km of the border, which cannot be physically fenced.
Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday (5 March 2019) also inaugurated BOLD-QIT (Border Electronically Dominated QRT Interception Technique) under CIBMS along the Indo- Bangladesh border in Dhubri district (Assam). Singh noted that over a period of time, all India’s international borders will have smart fencing.
