India Lockdown: Indian Railways Cancels All Passenger Operations Till 14 April; IndiGo, SpiceJet Follow Suit

Indian Railways has decided to cancel all its passenger trains till 14 April in light of the 21 day lockdown announced by Prime Minister, Financial Express has reported.

This means that the cancellation of all passenger trains including suburban, intercity and long distance trains has been extended by 14 days from the initial period of 31 March.

The cargo services of Indian Railways though are going on in full swing and transportation giant is working round the clock for supply of essential commodities across the country during the lockdown.

Low cost airlines IndiGo and SpiceJet too on Wednesday (25 March) officially announced the suspension of their domestic operations till 14 April.

IndiGo in its statement has announced the creating of credit shells to store the charged amount, which the flyer can then redeem in full for a journey until 30 September. The passengers may opt for a cancellation, but the airline will levy cancellation charges.

SpiceJet has announced a similar scheme but the credit shells can be redeemed for any journey made until 28 February 2021.
