At least 44 CRPF jawans are believed to have lost their lives in an IED attack at Awantipora in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district, media reports have claimed.

Reports claim dozens of other Jawans have been injured and the death toll is expected to rise. The terrorists are believed to have attacked a buse in a 70 vehicle strong CRPF convoy which was on route from Jammu to Srinagar.

As per an India Today report, an improvised IED blast was followed by gunshots at the Goripora area in Pulwama’s Awantipora. It is claimed that a vehicle was used for the IED attack and the possibility of a suicide mission isn’t being ruled out as per Jammu and Kashmir Police Chief Dilbag Singh.

It is being claimed that the bus had 45 CRPF jawans when a SUV laden with explosives crashed into it.

Pakistan backed terror organisation Jaish-E-Mohammed has taken responsibility for the attack.
