India To Generate 60 Per Cent Of Electricity From Renewable Sources By 2030: Power Minister R K Singh

Union Minister for Power, and New and Renewable Energy, R K Singh yesterday (21 July) said that by 2030, India will be generating around 60 per cent of its total electricity from renewable sources, reports Financial Express.
Sharing the ambitious goal, Singh said that the figure was a conservative one. He also underscored that while the total installed power generation capacity would reach about 510 GW by 2030, of this figure, as much as 60 GW will be hydropower.
The Government has already set itself a steep goal to have installed capacity of 450 GW of renewable energy by 2030, of which 175 GW is targeted for completion by 2022 itself. The goals were also announced by Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi at United Nations Climate Action Summit in September last year.
Sharing the progress so far, Singh said that already installed and under-development renewable energy and hydroelectricity projects stand at 190 GW capacity, which is higher than the target of 175 GW set for 2022.
Singh shared the developments and goals during a webinar which was organised by The Energy Resource Institute (TERI).
