Covid-19 vaccine.
In a boost for the India's nationwide COVID-19 vaccination drive, Gavi has said that India will be receiving between 190-250 million fully subsidised doses of COVID-19 vaccine in line with a decision taken by the COVAX Board in December, reports Times of India.
Gavi, the global public-private alliance on vaccines, has also said that India will be receiving funds to the tune of $30 million for urgent technical assistance and cold chain equipment. The body committed its full support to help India in overcoming the crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The body has in December last year decided that India will be receiving approximately 20 per cent of the total doses available to AMC (Advance Market Commitment) - eligible countries through the COVAX facility, subject to vaccine prices and available funds.
Gavi's spokesperson also shared that the ongoing crisis in India has impacted its vaccine supply chain as the country has been a major producer and supplier of vaccines.
It should be noted that Gavi is leading global efforts to provide vaccines to low and middle-income countries across the globe.
