India is considering connecting the ASEAN Power Grid and expanding the grid integration past the grouping to the Indian subcontinent. This measure will be aimed at furthering the ‘One Sun One World One Grid’ initiative, Mint reports.
Union Minister for Power and New and Renewable Energy R.K. Singh appreciated ASEAN for its efforts to bring about the ASEAN Power Grid.
The cabinet minister further expressed that India and ASEAN can work in coordination so that a whole ecosystem for renewables is created. This exercise will promote knowledge sharing, technical assistance and also capacity building.
Singh also added that India and the Indonesia will work towards facilitating and expediting the global energy transition as well.
The Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy along with the Ministry of External Affairs is presently organising an ASEAN-India High Level Conference along the theme of ‘Experience and Innovations for Integrated Renewables Market.’
Energy ministers along with the senior representatives of ASEAN addressed the concerned ministerial session, according to the aforementioned publication.
Moreover, the Director General (DG) of the International Solar Alliance (ISA) laid out the vision and plans of the ISA to the minister present in the meeting. He highlighted the prospective advantages for ASEAN members in joining the alliance.
