Indian Air Force To Buy Advanced ‘Bunker-Buster’ Version Of Spice-2000 Bombs Used During Balakot Air Strike

After the successful air raids on Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorist camp in Pakistan’s Balakot, Indian Air Force (IAF) is now planning to buy an advanced version of Israel-made Spice-2000 bombs that are capable of destroying structures like buildings and bunkers, reports Economic Times.
On 26 February, IAF’s package of 12 Mirage-2000 fighters entered Pakistani airspace and dropped Spice-2000 bombs on the Jaish facility in the Khyber Pakhtunkwa province.
During the raid, Indian Air Force had used the penetrator version of the Spice-2000 bombs during the Balakot raids which created holes on the the concrete rooftops of the targeted structures, before the mix of 70-80 kg explosives with sharpnel exploded, killing the people inside, without actually destroying the building.
The IAF is now planning to acquire the bunker buster version of the bombs, with Mark 84 warheads, through the emergency powers granted to the three services for buying equipment of their choice, up to Rs 300 crore.
Under the same powers, Indian Army has decided to buy Spike anti-tank guided missiles to thwart any possible armoured threat posed by the enemy troops.
