Indian Army is likely to make changes to the cloth used in its uniforms, after studying the uniforms worn by armed forces of other countries, reports India News.

If implemented, it would be the fourth time after independence that changes would be made to the army uniforms. The earlier alterations were made keeping in mind the terrain and changing warfare techniques. For example the khaki uniform was replaced with the current olive green one to create a distinction between the Indian and Pakistani army.

The latest changes proposed are the change of cloth, placement of ranks on the shoulder and also a design change in the belt to make it smarter. Currently, the uniform fabric is made of Terrycot which is uncomfortable in summer. Terrycot had replaced cotton which was difficult to maintain.

Indian Army has five types of uniforms, the most common one being olive trousers and shirts worn as a general duty dress. Apart from that, the army has a winter dress, a Blue Petrol Ceremonial Dress, 6 A mess or dinner uniform, 6 B summer mess dress and the Guard of Honour dress.
