In a major stride, the Indian Navy is set to get its first ever woman pilot as Sub-Lieutenant (Sub-Lt) Shivangi completes her training and joins naval operations on 2 December, reports India Today.
Hailing from Muzaffarpur in Bihar, Shivangi was inducted into the Indian Navy's Academy in Ezhimala as SSC (Pilot) and was commissioned in June 2018.
Upon completion of her operational training, Sub-Lt Shivangi will receive the authorisation to fly the Indian Navy's Dornier aircraft, making her the first woman pilot from the naval cadre to get into the cockpit.
It should be noted though that apart from the pilot role, Indian Navy has had various women serve as officers in the positions of air traffic control officers and as observers in the aircraft who are responsible for handling communications and weapons.
